“GO THEREFOR AND MAKE DISCIPLES”

Matthew 28:19

The Importance of Evangelism

As believers, the Lord calls us to be his disciples (John 8:31) and share God’s love and salvation with others. Evangelism is an essential part of fulfilling this calling. It allows us to reach out to those who may not have heard the gospel or understand its message, bringing them into a relationship with God. Furthermore, evangelism helps us grow in our faith as we become more confident in sharing our beliefs and receive encouragement from those we have reached. In essence, evangelism not only benefits the people we are sharing the gospel with, but it also strengthens our spiritual walks.

The Power of a Theme

Choosing a yearly theme on evangelism for a congregation can be powerful in uniting and motivating members towards this common goal. It serves as a reminder that evangelism is not just a one-time event but a continuous effort.  With a theme like “Go therefore and make disciples” (Matthew 28:19), the elders seek to remind the congregation of their responsibility to share the gospel with others wherever they go. The Lord’s commandment makes Christians accountable and encourages church members to seek opportunities for active evangelism.

Living Out the Theme

Our yearly theme on evangelism should not just be a slogan but a call to action. It is through our actions and words that we can truly impact others for Christ (1 Corinthians 9:22). Our goal is to organize outreach events in the community, participate in Bible studies, and even have training sessions on how to share the gospel effectively. These activities fulfill our calling to evangelize and create a sense of unity and purpose within the church here in Atlanta, TX.

The Ultimate Aim

The ultimate aim of evangelism is to bring others into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. When sharing it with others, it is crucial to have a clear message and understanding of the gospel (Romans 10:14-15). Evangelism serves as a reminder to constantly evaluate and improve our methods of sharing the good news. It also keeps us focused on the end goal: seeing more people come to trust and obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

Conclusion

Our yearly theme on evangelism can be a powerful tool in fulfilling our mission as followers of Christ to spread the gospel to all people (Mark 16:15). As we faithfully live out the theme, may God use us as vessels to bring many into a life-saving relationship with Him. Remember that evangelism is not just an event or a season but a way of life for every believer.  So, let us strive to make it a priority and passion in our lives as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Let this year’s theme be a constant reminder and encouragement for us always to be ready and willing to share the love and truth of Jesus with those around us. May we strive as the Atlanta church of Christ to fulfill our calling to evangelism and see the Lord’s kingdom grow. Amen.
